Last year’s Masters winner, Hideki Matsuyama, is also among the top-20 betting favorites but faces an uphill battle at recapturing the title.
The other contenders who have favorable odds to win the Masters include several notable names, such as Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka. Noticeably missing from the field of competitors is Phil Mickelson, who won’t play in The Masters for the first time in 28 years.
When you take a look at the Masters odds, it’s obvious that the field is very competitive. The payout can be potentially astronomical if you get the winner right!
The Masters 2022 Top Contenders
The Masters 2022 field of competitors has many unique names that you should keep an eye on. These are players who all have the talent to win a major championship and potentially secure a victory at Augusta.
Here are my top favorites and why I expect strong runs from them.
Jon Rahm
It’s really hard to start with anyone else. Jon Rahm is the main favorite of the bookies and for a good reason! He’s currently second in the official world rankings and the smaller number of events played is the main reason why he lost the top spot recently.
The guy also has four top 10 finishes in Augusta National in a row. Rahm loves the course and he’s been among the most consistent golfers in the past year or two. Another strong performance is on the cards and he can certainly go all the way in the 2022 Masters.
Jordan Spieth
Spieth is no newcomer when it comes to high-profile golfing tournaments. His decorated career includes a Masters Tournament victory back in 2015. The 28-year-old also won another major in the same year – the U.S. Open the same year.
It’s no surprise that the golf betting odds for Spieth suggest he’s among the Masters main contenders. The golfer has been consistent lately and performer really well at the Ryder Cup in 2021, helping the U.S. team earn a victory.
Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy is no stranger to the ups and downs that come with being a professional athlete – he has yet to win a major championship since 2014. However, he has several impressive accolades under his belt, including multiple PGA Championships.
As recently as 2020, McIlroy claimed the world number one ranking from Brooks Koepka, but John Rahm took over the top spot not long after. I believe that McIlroy is due for another major championship soon – he’s playing in the Valero Texas Open in preparation for the Masters Tournament.
If McIlroy is close to his best, the first spot is certainly possible.
Dustin Johnson
Dustin Johnson won the Masters in 2020 and he could easily win it again this year. The veteran player has won multiple major championships in his career, which also includes the 2016 U.S. Open.
Johnson is also currently ranked eighth in the world, putting him among the most elite golfers right now. He also had a strong run in the Ryder’s Cup, helping the U.S. team secure a victory over Europe.
Let’s not forget that Johnson loves the Augusta course. He scored a -20 under par when he won the Masters in 2020, which is a tournament record.
Brooks Koepka
After a disappointing performance at the Masters in 2021, Koepka will try to redeem himself in 2022. It should be noted Koepka was only 19 days removed from knee surgery at the time last year. I’m sure he’ll be eager to prove the weak run was because of that.
Koepka, like several other top contenders at this year’s Masters, is a proven winner. At 31 years old, he’s already secured multiple PGA Championships, and he finished second at the Masters in 2019. I believe that he certainly has the fire power and consistency to bring the trophy home.
The Rest of the Bunch
Are there contenders who can potentially win the Masters Tournament? Absolutely. Here’s how I view it: there hasn’t been a repeat winner at the Masters since Bubba Watson won the tournament for the second time in 2014.
More and more talented golfers are emerging every year, and the tough task of winning multiple Masters is becoming more and more unattainable. A bunch of players will arrive in Augusta aiming for the trophy.
The current world number one Scottie Scheffler, the 2021 winner Hideki Matsuyama, as well as Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, and Cameron Smith are only a few of the players that have the potential to win the Masters 2022.
Best Bets for The Masters 2022
Here is what I expect to happen: John Rahm catches fire and holds a solid lead throughout the tournament. He’s recently been playing some of the best golf in his life and he has the uncanny ability to make incredible recovery shots.
I’m betting on Rahm to win the Masters by seven strokes and finish with a -15 under par. It’s hard to deny that Rahm should be your top favorite to win the tournament when you consider his recent form.

Another prediction I want to make is for McIlroy to finish in the top ten. He’ll likely stumble and struggle to establish his footing early on. However, I believe that he can recover and finish strong at the Masters.
My most bold prediction for this year’s Masters is that Collin Morikawa won’t finish in the top 20. Although he recently won the PGA Championship in 2020, his putting game has been inefficient in recent tournaments.
Although Morikawa’s struggles aren’t uncommon for an elite golfer, he’s also suffered consistency issues that should also give bettors a cause for concern.
