With the NBA targeting December 22 as the start date for the regular season, the clock is running down for the teams looking to bolster their rosters. Also, bettors wanting to bag the most promising NBA picks ahead of the season opener are keen to know who will be playing where.
Due to Covid-19, the offseason has been thrown to a different part of the calendar, but now it’s here, we can expect free agency to soon follow. These are some of the names that could well be making the switch to new pastures.
Fred VanVleet
VanVleet may not be an NBA superstar, but few doubt that he would strengthen most team’s roster in the league. Despite his comparative lack of height, he’s proven to be among the NBA’s best defensive guards. He reads the game superbly and has shown that he has the mettle to take the big shots in the big games. Known as a leader on the court and in the locker room, VanVleet will have many interested parties blowing up his agent.
Joe Harris
It’s unclear if small forward Joe Harris will remain with Brooklyn Nets or whether he’ll be plying his trade elsewhere. Many believe it’s a gamble to let him go, as he’s the perfect fit next to Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. Harris has a reputation as a quality shooter and is at ease with shooting on the move. Also, his defensive abilities are more than adequate. Will the Nets want to be hit with the luxury-tax? That’s what we’re waiting to find out.
Danilo Gallinari
After a good season with Oklahoma, Gallinari’s value has risen, but at 32, questions will be asked how long he can carry at the top of his game. Experts would agree that defensively he has receded, but his offense is still strong. He was heavily linked with Miami at the trade deadline, so will this be his destination next season?
Christian Wood
After his performances at the tail end of last season, a few teams will now have their eyes on Wood, who is now an unrestricted free agent. Aged 25, he averaged 22.3 points – shooting 56 percent and 9.5 rebounds in his last 15 games. No doubt the Detroit Pistons will make every effort to keep him, but when money talks, players often walk.
Goran Dragic
One of the biggest free agents of this offseason is Miami Heat’s Goran Dragic. He was a star performer in the playoffs, averaging 20.9 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.2 rebounds over 15 matches. Unfortunately, for him and the Heat, he suffered an injury in the first game of the Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. The latest reports are that Dragic and Miami are trying to sort something out to keep him in Florida. However, with his stock so high right now, there may be other offers coming his way.
