Last April, it was Vladimir Guerrero Jr. who opened as the +450 betting favorite to lead the majors in home runs this season. Vladdy finished the 2021 season with 48 home runs, tied for the most in the majors. Second in the preseason betting boards were the Mets’ Pete Alonso and the Yankees’ Joey Gallo who were both listed at +1000. Alonso hit 37 bombs in 152 games last season while Gallo had 38 dingers in 153 games played. Aaron Judge, Mike Trout, and Yordan Alvarez came next with their +1200 odds.
However, as of July 3, 2022, it is Judge who leads the majors in homers with 29 and he is the heavy -150 favorite to lead the majors in home runs this season. Chasing Judge is Trout who has hit 23 bombs and has the second-best odds at +550. Meanwhile, Alonso is third at +750 with 22 home runs.
Kyle Schwarber and Alvarez are tied with Trout with 23 home runs this season but Schwarber is just at +1100 while Alvarez has dropped to +1400. Vladdy has 19 dingers this season and the preseason favorite has now drifted to +1600. Judge’s fellow Bronx Bomber Giancarlo Stanton has 20 homers this season and is listed at +3000 to lead baseball in home runs hit this season.

Currently, there are only nine players in Major League Baseball with at least 20 home runs this season. No team in baseball has more than one player with 20+ home runs this season except the New York Yankees who have three in Judge, Stanton, and Anthony Rizzo. They are the 8th trio in MLB history to have at least 20+ home runs each during their team’s first 80 games of a regular season, and the first since the 2006 White Sox.
The Yankees lead the majors with a total of 133 home runs of the season, 11 more than the team next to them the Atlanta Braves. Because of their bombs, the Yankees lead the league in RBIs with 382 and have scored an MLB-best 401 runs this season. New York also has the best record in baseball at 58-22, 5.5 games better than the Houston Astros. The Yankees also have a massive 13-game lead over the Boston Red Sox in the AL East.
As for Judge, he isn’t just the odds-on favorite to lead the majors in home runs this season. He is also the current AL MVP betting favorite at the online sportsbook BetOnline with his -125 odds, with reigning MVP Shohei Ohtani chasing him at +225 and Mike Trout as the third favorite with his +800 odds.
